Air India Flight 171 Crash – June 12, 2025
On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The flight was en route to London Gatwick Airport. The crash resulted in the deaths of 241 individuals on board and at least 33 people on the ground. The sole survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, is recovering in a hospital. The crash is the first fatal incident involving the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
The pilot issued a mayday call less than a minute after takeoff, but the aircraft descended rapidly and crashed into a residential area. Both black boxes have been recovered, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
